Outrageous Overdraft Charges! Ripoff! Rude costumer service, automated computer system with no human reasoning

I am a Newly Married young man and a fairly new US Bank costumer. Still trying to grasp all of the rules and regulations for having just a simple checking account I deposited a paycheck on Saturday into my account.

After depositing money in our account my wife and I celebrated her birthday that Sunday. When I checked my online status on my account the Monday after it said I had an available balance of $-72.00 I thought this was odd since according to my quicken account which is linked to US Bank, I had over $300.00 to spare after the weekend.

I then went into the local US bank and they explained to me that Saturday, although the bank is open, isn't considered a business day. This makes sense to me and I'm glad that I know the information now. I will now make sure checks are deposited monday through Friday before 4pm. Then she proceded to tell me that I will be hit with 10 overdraft fees that are $34.00 a peice and once these hit my account it will take the rest of the $300.00 already in there, and the still pending items will not clear resulting in an additional $200.00 in overdraft charges.

So all in all, I am having to pay over $500.00 in overdraft fees just because I deposited a check on saturday instead of cashing it and depositing it on Friday. It's not like a didn't have the money to pay for what I spent over the weekend, it's just that Saturday doesn't count as a business day, therefore I am charged $500.00 in overdraft fees

Now I can understand that I made a mistake, but why should I be penalized so harshly when any human could look and see that I actually had the money to pay for everything... It was just a matter of making a mistake about business hours.

Finally The West Des Moines branch in Iowa (the branch I am using since I just moved to Nashville) treated me like I was a criminal and a terrible person when I called them on the phone to clear this up, instead of a respected client who could potentially bring them lots of money after I put my college degree to work for a few years.

It was very obvious they didn't care about me or my situation but rather the bottom line... Making money. I hope I can find a local bank here in Nashville that isn't just a computer but rather looks at the actual situation and cares about their costumers.
