YEARS AGO, as in more than 10, a small time rip-off based credit card company and I had a disagreement. You know the story, the total disputed amount AT THE TIME: just under $500. Once the Vice-Versa Visa card company* calculated its outta nowhere grabbing-for-the-largest-pile-'o-money listed as fees, charges, penalties, etc. the total: just under FIFTEEN HUNDRED!
Sent them a nice letter explaining how their position and amount was at variance with the relevant state and federal laws (providing the actual citations), best way to describe it is: the whole matter evaporated-including no mention of it on any credit report.
Fast forward to 09/24, a rather official appearing letter/communication from a debt collector attempting to collect a debt arrives by USPS. This is my first communication related to this same matter since receiving the delivery confirmation form attached to my last correspondence.
This is from TATE & KIRLIN ASSOCIATES, INC. advising they have reached a wonderful settlement with the credit card company. If I accept the offer it would require an immediate one time payment of $479.91, via the website paytka.com.
Which brings this narrative to an end at the intersection of my business and "takin' it to the streets", in other words: at the first sentence, above.
What would YOU do with this? Any suggestions for choices for my next step, which might vary from that? If you have the time, care to share, please provide details.
