I have a small regular balance and a big transfer balance. So, I am not really being screwed as much as other people when it comes to separate balances.
I read and reread (those cardmember agreements are meant to be hard to read) the cardmember agreement. I certainly understand Discover is there to make money. I've been nickeled and dimed to death. Everybody does it. It makes me so frustrated. I just want to scream.
Though, in order to save myself a couple of dollars, I had requested my payment to go to the small ($60) regular balance before it goes to the transfer balance ($950). BTW, I have the 0% APR transfer deal.
Discover says no deal. So, they would rather lose a customer than the 95 cents per month finance charge they'd get until I pay the $950 off???
I guess customers are a dime a dozen and they can afford to lose a few. Maybe that's a backwards way of saving money on fraud. If there is no customer, there is no chance of fraud.
Why don't they try to keep their current customers and maybe they could save money with less advertising?
Credit card companies count on people overspending, so when they legally cheat people, they don't care. What are you going to do? Pay off the card and close the account? If you can and do, they didn't want your business anyway because they won't make that much money off of you. And if you can't pay off the card, you're screwed and they make the money no matter how much you holler.
They only way to stop this legal rip-off, is to get out and stay out of debt. Don't spend what you don't have. I know it's easier said than done but it's not impossible. Finance charges and APRs make the world go round these days. The people who aren't careful with their money get stuck with them.
