At the end of my lease, when I decided to buy it out, I called Kia Finance as instructed to purchase the vehicle. I found out that in the state of Florida I would have to complete the transaction directly through the dealership. After I contacted the dealership, to my surprise, they informed me that I would have to pay them an additional "document" fee of $699.00 just for the paperwork!
After numerous calls over a 2 week period to Kia Finance, which is located in CA, I was told that they have been experiencing problems with dealerships tacking on this astronomical fee for mere paperwork. They would then call the dealership to negotiate the document fee or, if unable to do that, find another third party to complete the transaction.
Yesterday I finally got a call from the finance company informing me that the transaction would be completed through a third-party vendor for free!
If anyone out there leases a vehicle and has any thoughts of eventually buying it out, ask these questions beforehand and get it in writing before the lease agreement is made!
