Kia Motors Finance and Kia Finance America: who services the loan, how to reach them, and where to complain (checked October 12, 2026)

Which company this is. The lender that services Kia vehicle loans and leases under the Kia Finance America name is Hyundai Capital America. Its privacy policy (effective December 17, 2025) calls Kia Finance America "the trade name of Hyundai Capital America, a California corporation", and Indiana's Department of Financial Institutions lists "Kia Motors Finance" and "Kia Finance America" among the doing-business-as names of Hyundai Capital America, Inc. The company's own site and statements use Kia Finance America; the Kia Motors Finance name still appears on BBB and in the Indiana listing. Most customers signed their contract at a Kia dealership, which then assigned it to this lender.

The page text was read through a text renderer, so check the numbers against your latest statement before relying on them.

What the company's pages offer. The home page lists an online account, Autopay, paperless billing, email alerts, and a title tracker tool that the company says helps customers see "where you are in the title/lien release process". For leases it says it mails a Lease-End Kit four months before the contract maturity date and describes three options: lease or buy a new Kia, buy the current vehicle, or return it. Its Terms of Use ask you to call the Customer Service Department at 866-331-5632 if you believe your password or account was used without permission.

If a problem is not resolved with the lender. You can submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint (the CFPB page lists (855) 411-2372). In the CFPB's public database the matching company name is "HYUNDAI CAPITAL AMERICA"; the database did not suggest a separate Kia Motors Finance or Kia Finance America name on October 12, 2026. Servicemembers should also read the Justice Department order summarized below, which concerns repossessions of vehicles owned or leased by protected servicemembers. Complaints on this page are allegations by the people who filed them, not findings.

Federal orders naming Hyundai Capital America (CFPB 2022, Justice Department 2024)

CFPB consent order, July 26, 2022. The CFPB describes Hyundai Capital America as a nonbank automotive finance company that "purchases and services retail installment contracts and vehicle leases originated by Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis dealerships". The Bureau found that the company repeatedly furnished consumer reporting companies information containing numerous systemic errors and that it knew of many of the inaccuracies for years before attempting to fix them. The order states findings that the company violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Regulation V and the Consumer Financial Protection Act, including failing to promptly correct inaccurate information, failing to provide the required date of first delinquency on certain accounts, failing to modify or delete disputed information it found inaccurate, and failing to set up reasonable identity-theft blocking procedures. The Bureau also found that the company's use of ineffective manual processes and systems containing known logic errors to furnish information was unfair under the Consumer Financial Protection Act, and that it did not establish and implement reasonable written policies and procedures on the accuracy and integrity of furnished information. It requires $13,200,000 in redress to affected consumers and a $6,000,000 civil money penalty. The company consented "without admitting or denying any of the findings of fact or conclusions of law", except the facts needed for the Bureau's jurisdiction. Under the order it ends on the later of five years from the effective date or five years from the most recent date the Bureau initiates an action alleging a violation of the order, if such an action is initiated within five years of the effective date (measured from July 26, 2022, the five-year term runs to July 2027); the CFPB's administrative docket lists only the stipulation and consent order, both dated 07/26/2022.

Justice Department consent order, November 26, 2024. The United States alleged that Hyundai Capital America violated the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act by repossessing 26 motor vehicles leased or owned by protected servicemembers between April 15, 2015 and May 21, 2023 without the required court orders. The order says the company "neither admits nor denies" the allegations. It requires SCRA-compliant repossession policies and training, $10,000 per servicemember-owner on each listed account plus any lost equity on retail accounts together with interest on that lost equity (with $270,000 to be placed in escrow), credit repair for affected servicemembers, and a $74,941 payment to the U.S. Treasury (the Justice Department's case page calls this amount a civil penalty). It is in effect for four years from entry. The case page lists the Civil Rights Division at 202-514-3847.

Licensing. Indiana's record lists a Non-Lender (General Finance) licence, number 634, issued 07/01/1990 and shown as Activated on October 12, 2026. The Kia Finance America site footer lists Connecticut, Maryland, Illinois and California Financing Law licence disclosures.

Searches run on October 12, 2026 did not identify a state attorney general or state regulator order naming Hyundai Capital America, Kia Finance America or Kia Motors Finance; individual state regulator databases were not each searched.

Who stands behind the Kia Finance America name

Entity. Hyundai Capital America (HCA) is headquartered at 3161 Michelson Drive, Suite 1900, Irvine, California. Its website describes it as "the trusted captive finance partner of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands" and says it works "through our service brands Hyundai Motor Finance, Genesis Finance, and Kia Finance America", providing "indirect vehicle financing and leasing solutions to over 3 million customers" (a company statement). The Justice Department's consent order describes HCA as "a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor America and Kia America" and "one of the top-10 captive auto-finance companies in the United States"; the CFPB's order records approximately 2 million customers and assets above $45 billion in 2021 as reported by the company in that proceeding. These figures come from different documents and dates and are not combined.

The name. Two company pages describe the Kia Finance America name differently. The Kia Finance America Terms of Use say it "is a trademark of Hyundai Capital America, a California corporation and/or its affiliates", while the HCA 'Finance Solutions' page says "Kia Finance America is the registered trademark of Kia Finance America, Inc. and is used with permission". Both statements are quoted here as the company published them; they have not been reconciled with a trademark registry search.

Sister brands and partners. HCA also services the Hyundai Motor Finance and Genesis Finance brands, which are treated as the same lender, not a different company. The Kia Finance America home page says it has partnered with Root Insurance to offer insurance quotes to Kia owners. BBB lists an incorporation date of 1989-09-06 for the Hyundai Capital America file, from the page's raw data.

Recent company news. HCA's newsroom lists a release dated August 26, 2026 about funding-market (asset-backed securities) milestones and a June 2, 2025 announcement of a President and CEO appointment. The sources checked on October 12, 2026 showed no recent release about changes to Kia Finance America servicing, payment channels or complaint handling.

This site's archive. Five approved complaints in the archive name Kia's finance arm as the subject (dated 2005 to 2013). They describe a credit-report charge-off after a stolen vehicle, a repossession after a payoff, a refund of a disability-policy premium held by the lender, a duplicate debit after a trade-in, and a title not received after payoff. Eight further posts mention the lender in a related way (seven under the sister brand Hyundai Motor Finance, one lease buyout fee dispute with a dealership). These are individual accounts that have not been independently verified.

Court record: the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act case

United States v. Hyundai Capital America (C.D. Cal., No. 2:24-cv-03818-MEMF-AS). The Justice Department filed the complaint on May 8, 2024 and the court approved a consent order on November 26, 2024; the terms are summarized in the regulator section. The order says the defendant neither admits nor denies the allegations and provides for the case to be dismissed with prejudice after the four-year term, which the United States may move to extend.

Other dockets. A CourtListener search of federal dockets by the case name "Hyundai Capital America" on October 12, 2026 returned many pages of docket results, including consumer suits filed in 2026 in the Central District of California, and a search for "Kia Finance America" returned a docket filed in 2025 in the Southern District of Texas. Their claims and outcomes were not reviewed for this page; a docket entry shows what was filed, not whether an allegation is true.
