After I had a fairly minor accident that involved only my car and damage to it, Allstate used my credit report as a reason to raise my car insurance premium by over $800.00 (over $166.00 a month).
This was the first claim I had ever made against my policy in the 18 months I had been insured by them.
I do not think that using someone's past financial problems against them to raise their auto premium by well over 100% is either fair or ethical. I do not care if it is legal.
People often have little or no control over what happens to them economically, and using their misfortune against them should not be legal.
Their actions prove yet again that insurance companies are more than happy to take your money, but heaven help you if you ever use the service that you are paying for.
I had considered Allstate to be a decent company, but I now know that their claims that they really care about their policyholders are nothing but a pack of lies.
No one is in "good hands" if they have insurance with Allstate.
