I recently started with BB&T with my new job and was told it was an excellent company to bank with... Uh, no. I have had more problems with this bank and their excuses than with any other institution that can be named. They tend to lay the blame on you or on someone else in the company. They continue to read the fine print to you like it was the constitution.
I bounced some checks in the beginning because of my own unintelligence and not having had an account for 7 years. Things have changed since I last had one. Okay. But recently they have shown their true colors. In the last month I have noticed that they keep telling me that they can put my transactions in as they wish, high to low or low to high. It is their decision, when before I had been told that it goes as it comes in. With BB&T, be aware.
My most recent interaction is making me totally sever ties with this bank. I deposited through direct deposit, which, by the way, they put on hold, and I deposited my husband's check on Friday, which they also put a hold on. I wrote 4 checks Thursday afternoon. They normally do not process until Monday, because banks tell you they do not do any processing on Saturday, right? Right. Today is Saturday, and I am officially $100 in the hole because they decided to process today. It is the only Saturday since I have been with them.
Not only am I horrified at what they did, but at how they managed to do so. They held my deposits on hold while processing the 4 checks first, even though my money was in the bank on hold, and bounced it all. Then they had the nerve to read me their policy over the phone, insisting they can do as they wish.
So anyone thinking of using BB&T, think hard. You WILL get charged 2.00 for every customer service phone call where you talk to a rep, every time you call. You WILL get charged if you use their ATMs, plus the fee if it is not theirs. You WILL get the brush-off every time there is a dispute, and I mean with complete bank lingo. Even when your math does not add up to theirs and you have read the policies, they treat them like monopoly money instructions and play around with the rules like a 7-year-old who thinks he can.
So think hard and long before opening an account with these scammers. They are out for money, and it is for them, not the customer.
