BB&T is the worst bank in the United States. I thought Wachovia was, because of its lame explanation of overdraft fees, but I just found the worst. I had 5 pending transactions whose money was already accounted for and had been subtracted from my balance. I made a mistake and used my check card, since America likes to preach about doing this now, when I had cash. The store would not void my transaction.
I called the bank, and the person I talked to was rude. I asked her, "Is it too late for me to deposit this now without getting charged an overdraft fee?" I was already sure it was 2:00 PM. They will not waive any fees. She would not give me a straight answer. Her response was, "You should just deposit $45 to be sure you're covered." You will not give me a straight answer, and you want me to put money in there just to give it to you? I elected not to, as I do not have the money anyway. I could have tossed $2.50 in there to cover it, but with an answer that lame I decided to eat the $35.
Here is where the legality comes into question. I had 5 pending transactions already accounted for and deducted from my balance. They just had not "officially" gone through to the other side yet. This $2.50 transaction was my last and only transaction that was listed and in the negative. So I should just get charged $35, right? Wrong! They are now charging me $35 for each pending transaction that was already paid and deducted from my balance. However, only one transaction, the latest, which is still pending, was the one to go negative, and I should get one charge. Now I am getting around 5.
Safe to say I have signed up with Suntrust. Unfortunately my paycheck is direct deposited to this account, for the last time. The smart thing to do with banks is to not deal with them at all. From now on I will be withdrawing all of my money besides the bills that get debited out, and I will not risk this ever happening again. I am also going to use the BB&T account to charge a bunch of things I want, because they deserve to take the loss. I have done this before and my credit is still fine. All they have are excuses and unhelpful customer service reps.
