If you are a hardworking citizen, BB&T is NOT the bank for you.
Stealing your money without a valid explanation is the issue here.
First they begin the relationship by being less than professional and looking down their noses at you, all while conceitedly claiming to be the best in the business.
I am constantly being charged overdraft fees and NSF fees when I know for a fact that I am not overdrafting. I do not write any checks, and I keep track of my debit purchases and such.
That does not matter to them when you dispute the fact that they are taking your money. They will give you every excuse in the book and tell you until you are blue in the face that, while all of your figures match and balance correctly, they just do not match what they have. And what they have, you have never seen!
This happens, mind you, when you go to the bank in person with all of your documentation to prove your case, and it takes five BB&T employees (not one or two but five) to spend an hour looking at your account and admit that they do not know what happened or why I was charged. Clearly they have no clue, and while they will admit amongst each other that it must be a mistake when they think you are out of earshot, that is not what they come back to tell you.
What they do is huddle long enough to ruin your day even more and come up with a distorted, complex story as to why yet again your money was stolen by the very people who are supposed to protect it and help you manage your financial affairs better by banking with them. But it never makes ANY sense, not even to them, and it is always, always your fault.
I was charged $34.50 x 4 in one week for being $4.00 short, and they could not prove it, but I had to eat the loss. When a retail store mistakenly runs your card for the wrong amount and you fix the problem first thing, you still get charged because it is "electronic." However, this same bank told me to avoid using ATMs because they do not really know how much money is in your account - because it is "electronic"!
Here is a good question I asked: "Even if you could prove that I was charged because I used my debit card and my account was short 17 cents, if that is the case, why does the purchase go through when the money is not there?" I do not care if it is .4 or $4. I am paying $34 multiple times for no reason. The point of debit is to make a purchase for which you have enough money in your account, and it is deducted automatically. But BB&T says it is electronic and it is your fault. Oh, and your figures never match theirs because you are just completely WRONG. I would still rather have a purchase denied and be embarrassed or inconvenienced than pay their cold-hearted, unjustified fees.
The online banking system is yet another service they offer you but do not tell you that it too will fail you if you want it to be accurate or reliable. So what it all comes down to is that we have ATMs that are inaccurate because they are electronic, online banking that is not a reliable reference because it is electronic, and fees that should not happen but do because they are electronic. And we have a bank staffed with employees who do not have a clue what they are saying to cover their tracks, and it does not make any sense. These employees obviously never had any sleepless nights worrying about feeding the family now that your money has been ripped off, and they basically say what they say to make you feel like you are a horrible manager of money and a pathetic case of someone who is complaining again, when it is all your fault, remember.
