I mailed a letter to Radio Shack / Citi Cards describing my dispute over their customer service and credit practices.
It went out on 04/29 by registered mail, with delivery confirmation number 0304 1560 0007 2422 0798. A few days later I confirmed on usps.com that it had arrived. They have not answered me.
This is the text of my letter:
To Whom It May Concern:
My letter concerns a minor mistake on my credit report that has turned into a serious financial problem. I held an active Radio Shack credit card, and my last transaction on it was around late December, the month I moved to Carlsbad, California.
In late December I bought a satellite dish at the Radio Shack in the Carlsbad Mall. I told them then that my address had changed from Glendale, California to Carlsbad, and I had them book an installation appointment at the new address.
The technician who came to my condo found that my Homeowners Association did not permit the dish, so I took it back in December. The store was packed with holiday shoppers, and the salesperson struggled with the return. I told the associate I wanted to return the item and pay off my whole Radio Shack balance.
The whole transaction took upwards of thirty minutes, and when it ended I believed the balance was paid in full. No statement for the Radio Shack card ever reached me after December, which did not strike me as odd, since I assumed no bill is sent for a $0.00 balance.
The main point is that on that December day at the store I had both the money and the intention to pay the debt. Since then I have tried e-mail, regular mail, telephone and now registered mail to fix this. Each request has either gone unanswered or been waved off with a we can't help you attitude.
I want to pay this bill the way I meant to in December and have my credit reporting corrected. If it is not settled to my satisfaction within thirty business days, I will:
File an online summary of my complaint with consumer watchdog websites.
File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Notify the FTC of the unfair credit reporting practices I have run into.
File a small claims action to resolve this in court.
