I had some very heavy gold pieces of jewelry, so when my husband died July 22, I could use the extra money. Gold Max advertised all over and also had an extra 20% for seniors. I told them I wanted them to convert to ounces because I didn't understand pennyweight. They said they couldn't do that, but they finally agreed to give me the pennyweight figures written on their business card. They said they used the federally approved method of weighing and payment.
I was suspicious because I had 2 heavy gold men's rings and a heavy gold charm bracelet with 7 charms. They gave me a check for $480.97. The breakdown was 13 DWT of 10 karat gold, 33.5 DWT of 14 karat gold, and 60.1 DWT of 925 (sterling silver). When I got home, I called 3 other places, and the amounts I was quoted were all $1,600, without even mentioning the silver. I called them back, but they would not agree to any kind of settlement.
