Selling at a Heartland Roadshow event: what the company says, and what to do before and after

The pages below were opened on 2026-10-12. Heartland Road Show is the name of traveling buying events at which the company says it buys 'gold, silver, coins, watches, and more'. Its FAQ says there is no appointment, evaluation is free, the team will 'be in or near your hometown for 4-5 days', and 'If you accept our offer and decide to sell - you'll be paid on-the-spot by check.' The site says offers are 'fair value' and that there is 'no obligation to sell'.

Before you go.

• Call the number on the company site, (800) 885-3030, or use the Contact page form to ask which dates and hotel the event uses; the company's own pages do not list event addresses.
• The company's mailers and site describe broad categories (gold, silver, coins, watches, paper currency, vintage and fashion jewelry, sports memorabilia, vintage toys). In its public replies on BBB the company says that inclusion of a category in its advertising 'is not intended to represent that every item within that category will have significant resale value or receive a particular purchase offer', and that 'offers are based on the current resale market'.
• Complaint accounts on BBB and in our archive describe sellers getting quotes from other buyers for the same items and quotes that differed by hundreds of dollars. Getting a second written quote before the event is a step the sellers themselves describe taking; it is not something the company asks for.

At the event and after the sale. A complaint on BBB describes asking for a receipt after the sale and receiving a document listing total weights rather than each item; the company replied that the receipt was 'based on the weights of the items' and that the customer 'did not ask us to list every item and its weight'. If you want a per-item record, the seller accounts suggest asking for it in writing before you accept payment. The company's FAQ, Terms and Contact pages opened on 2026-10-12 do not state a time period in which a completed sale can be reversed; the Terms & Conditions are written for use of the website. Two BBB complaints describe sellers asking to reverse a sale the next day and being told the items had already left the location; the company's replies visible on the complaints tab offer a phone call or say it will call back.

Mailing list. Several BBB complaints concern repeated postal mailers. The company replied on BBB that mailers are produced through a postal advertising service and are prepared in advance, and in a reply dated 2026-09-21 told a complainant: 'If you contact the number on the card, they will be able to walk you through the process of getting removed from our mailing distribution.' That is the company's own stated route for postal mail. Separately, the Privacy Policy gives a webform and the phone number 800-885-3030 for opting out of 'the selling or sharing of your personal information, or use of that information for targeted advertising or profiling'; it does not mention postal-mail removal, so whether that form also stops mailers is not stated on the page.

Where to complain. You can file a complaint with BBB (the company is BBB Accredited and answers complaints there), with the Illinois Attorney General, where the company is based (Chicago hotline listed on the AG's site: 1-800-386-5438; online form at illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/File-A-Complaint/), with the attorney general of the state where you sold, and with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If the event was in Texas, the Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner (OCCC) complaint portal lists 'Crafted Precious Metal Dealer' as a complaint type and says a complaint can still be filed if the business is not found in its system.

Cooling-Off Rule. The FTC's page on the Cooling-Off Rule describes a right to cancel a purchase made at a seller's temporary location such as a hotel room, and the seller's duty to cancel and refund the purchase; its examples concern a consumer buying something. The page does not say that a consumer selling jewelry to a dealer receives a three-day cancellation right, so confirm with your state attorney general before relying on it.

Who operates Heartland Road Show

The Privacy Policy names the operator as 'Roadshow Concepts, LLC d/b/a Heartland Roadshow'. The Terms & Conditions give notice address '1415 22nd Street, suite 950, Oak Brook, IL 60523 (Attn: Legal Department)' and BBB lists the same building as 'Roadshow Concepts, LLC, DBA Heartland and GoldMax', 1415 W 22nd St Ste 950E, Oak Brook. BBB lists Jordan Sadoff as President. No Illinois Secretary of State record could be read: the state's business-entity search returned 'Access Denied' when opened in a browser on 2026-10-12, so the entity's filing date and status were not independently confirmed.

Licensing page. The company's 'Licensing & Disclosures' page reads: 'Road Show Concepts, LLC, crafted precious metal dealer, 2400 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169', and 'Road Show Concepts, LLC is regulated by: The Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner, 2601 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78705-4207', with a registration number. The registration was not independently checked in the Texas regulator's database, and the page does not say which other states' licenses apply to events held there. The OCCC's industries page says registered industries, which include crafted precious metal dealers, 'are not subject to routine and periodic examinations', although the agency keeps the right to investigate consumer concerns and complaints. Its crafted-precious-metals page says registrants add temporary locations through a separate application ('select temporary as the type'), so a reader attending a Texas event can ask the company which registered location the event uses. The 2400 Hassell Road address appears on the company's licensing page; the page does not say what the address is used for.

History as the company states it. The FAQ says 'Trusted by Thousands SINCE 2009'. BBB's profile shows a file opened in 2008 and a business start date in 2005 (BBB-reported). The company's site also says it is 'one of the nation's largest buyers of gold and silver coins', a claim made by the company that this page has not verified.

Related brand. BBB lists 'Gold Max' and 'Gold Max Usa' as alternate names on the same business file, and the goldmaxusa.com site ('Cash for Gold in Orland Park, Arlington Heights & Brick NJ') shows the same phone number, (877) 465-3629, as the BBB profile. The goldmaxusa.com pages opened on 2026-10-12 do not name Roadshow Concepts, LLC. Three older posts in our archive (2012 and 2013) concern 'Gold Max' storefronts and are linked here as a related brand only.

Inconsistent contact details. The site header shows [email protected]; the footer and Contact page show [email protected]; the Terms contact section lists 800-580-4040 and [email protected]. The Terms also say they govern 'https://theheartlandroadshow.com/'. Readers contacting the company in writing should use the address and phone on the Contact page and keep a copy.

20% bonus. The site's 'GET 20% BONUS' button leads to a page that asks for a name and email, 'to receive your 20% bonus. By submitting, you agree to receive occasional emails from Heartland Roadshow.' The page opened on 2026-10-12 does not explain what the bonus applies to beyond 'on the sale of your GOLD & SILVER JEWELRY!' or state any conditions.

BBB, Yelp and our own archive: counts as displayed, not combined

BBB (as displayed on 2026-10-12). The profile for 'Roadshow Concepts, LLC, DBA Heartland and GoldMax' (Oak Brook, IL) shows an A+ rating, 'BBB Accredited' (BBB data: since 2025-04-02), '35 total complaints in the last 3 years' and '32 complaints filed in the last 12 months', and a reviews tab showing '4.15 /5 stars, Average of 136 Customer Reviews'. BBB notes that displayed complaint text may not represent all complaints filed.

The complaints on the first page of the complaints tab (dated 2026-07-19 to 2026-09-15) include: a seller who says a collection weighed about 1,200 pennyweights was paid $600 and asked to reverse the sale; a seller who says the receipt showed 22.6 grams of 10K gold paid at a flat $221 and a platinum setting adjusted to zero, and who says items were gone the next day; a complaint that a seller was paid $295 after reading an advertisement that showed a $5,325 payout for a collection (the company's reply says its mailers state the advertised price is per ounce and that the advertised collection 'was valued based on several factors'); a 4.5-pound silver bar that tested as silver on the surface and was reported by the company to be 'not pure silver throughout', with a tracking number given for its return; complaints about repeated mailers, one marked 'Resolved'; and a $60 check that the complainant says was unsigned. These are individual consumer accounts with the company's replies, not BBB findings.

BBB reviews. The reviews tab includes both 5-star and 1-star reviews. The company posts public replies to negative reviews, stating that offers depend on weight, purity and resale market and that 'there is never any obligation to sell'.

Yelp (as displayed on 2026-10-12). A listing spelled 'The Hearland Roadshow' for the Oak Brook address shows 2.3 (57 reviews) and 'Unclaimed'.

Trustpilot. A direct address (trustpilot.com/review/heartlandroadshow.com) returned 'The page you're looking for could not be found' when opened on 2026-10-12; no Trustpilot profile was identified at that address.

Our archive. Six approved complaints in our archive name the business as the subject, dated 2025-08-04 to 2026-02-17. The authors say they describe low offers for gold, silver, coins or antiques, different quotes on different days, long waits, or fashion jewelry and coins valued at very small amounts; one author says a second buyer offered $477 for items Heartland offered $78 for. Two accounts (one archive post, one BBB review) say staff described proceeds or items as donated; the company's pages opened on 2026-10-12 do not mention donations. Allegations are the authors' own and have not been verified by us. The counts above come from different sources and are not added together.

Is Heartland Road Show Legitimate?

Roadshow Concepts, LLC d/b/a Heartland Roadshow is a BBB Accredited business with an A+ BBB rating (as displayed 2026-10-12), a published Oak Brook, Illinois notice address and a licensing page naming it as a precious metal dealer. It runs the events described above. Consumers also describe, in BBB complaints and reviews, in our archive and on Yelp, offers they considered far below other buyers' quotes, disputes over receipts and itemization, and difficulty reversing a sale; the company answers many of these publicly and says offers follow weight, purity and resale market and that sellers may decline.

What was and was not found. On 2026-10-12 the Texas OCCC enforcement-actions list (occc.texas.gov/publications/legal/enforcement-actions/) was opened and contained no entry naming Roadshow Concepts, LLC, Road Show Concepts, LLC or Heartland Roadshow. A CourtListener search for federal dockets could not be completed on 2026-10-12 (the service returned a rate-limit error), so federal court records were not confirmed either way, and the Illinois Secretary of State and other state registries were not searchable. This is a limited check, not a statement that no action or lawsuit exists. A different company with a similar name, such as a traveling gold buyer in another state, is not covered here.

Whether an individual offer was fair depends on the items, their weight and purity, and the market that day. A written itemized quote and a second opinion are the practical checks sellers describe; the company's own pages say you are free to decline.
