Homeowners Claim Denied Over Phone for Water Under the House

Allstate Insurance backpedals to cover up their lies!

I opened a claim with my homeowners insurance (unfortunately it was with Allstate) back in September. They denied me over the phone before they even knew what was wrong, and before I did either. I called them while the plumber was under my house, to let them know there was water in my crawl space. They immediately said, "The plumbing is obviously old, therefore it's not covered." When my plumber told me the plumbing was pretty new (within 5 years), Allstate said, "Well, obviously the leak has been going on for some time," so once again they denied it. The plumber told me that the amount of water under the house looked like it could be from one 15-minute shower. I called Allstate back and gave them this information. They told me that the only way it would be covered is if the problem was "sudden and unexpected." I told them it was sudden and unexpected. I also let them know that a cable guy had been down there a day or two before the water damage and had not noticed any leaks or water. It went downhill from there! It was voicemail tag for days on end, and when I was finally able to get my rep on the phone, she was rude, spoke over me, and just kept telling me the claim was denied because the situation was not considered sudden and unexpected. I asked to speak to her boss, Darren. What a mistake!

Talking to Darren was like talking to a movie version of a used car salesman! I kept driving home the obvious: what part of this situation is not sudden or unexpected? Then I told him about the conversations I had with the other reps, who said things like "Obviously the plumbing is old" when it obviously was not. He said those conversations never happened! After going round and round with me for an hour and a half, he decided he would send someone out (thank God! That is what I had been asking for since the first phone call). They did not send an adjuster. They sent a leak detection company. Guess what: I had the leak repaired the day I had the problem! What can a leak detection company find three months after the fact? Nothing! Once again the claim has been denied because there is no leak! I am planning on sending a letter to the CEO and then contacting a lawyer!
