I got a letter from Humana saying that I had to pay them $4,000 in back pay that I supposedly "failed to pay." The thing is, they said this happened 3 years ago, and I'm only now getting a bill saying I owed them money. Wasn't that what they were supposed to do, help out people? I knew I didn't owe them money, and any decent business would let you know that you have an outstanding bill rather than wait 3 years to tell you!
Not only that, the letter stated that I had to pay the bill by the 4th, and I had gotten the bill on the 3rd. Where was I going to get that money? If I didn't pay, they would cancel my insurance. Oddly, this came around when I was to have surgery.
I called them, but whenever I was transferred, I would get the dial tone. I had had it, so I went to the location on post, at a Fifth Army base, and talked to the lady there. She said that I did have an outstanding bill and if I didn't pay, she would personally file criminal charges against me for insurance fraud. I told her, "Why should I be charged with anything? You're the one who works with a company that fails to notify people of outstanding bills three years later." She said, "Talk to your congressman." I said, "Oh, I will." The lady said, "I'll see you in court."
As I was leaving the back room, another Humana customer was complaining about a letter he had gotten stating the same thing: "Pay up $4000." So it wasn't only me. I was forced to pay, and they did cause problems afterwards. I went with another company also. Total rip-off and con artists! Stay away from them.
