TIME WARNER - Holding me responsible for ex roommates bill - cable/internet

A friend and I decided to be roommates for a few months. I had Verizon Fios and she had Time Warner cable. She wanted to keep Time Warner because she felt they had better internet service and she worked from home quite often. Well, 2 months in I came home one day to find her and her things GONE! No warning. No notice. A week later I called Time Warner to get service in my name. They needed HER permission to cancel service so they put me on hold and called her and got her permission. At that time the CS rep told me that SHE (roommate) had an outstanding balance. I had NO idea. I gave her 1/2 the cable bill both months she was there. I asked the CS rep if that had any reflection on me and i was told ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! So, I scheduled my install, paid the installation fee and first month bill over the phone. They came out and installed my cable and all was well. NOT!!! A week later I receive a call from the Risk Management department. They said that Ms. X (roommate) had an outstanding balance of almost $400. This means she had to have had a balance when she transferred service to my apartment. Risk Management said that if Ms. X does not pay her balance by the 13th that MY cable would be shut off. I explained that the account was hers; in her name; had her SS # attached; had been her service for years. They said that because I was living at that same address at the time of service that I was now "attached" to her and my service will be interrupted if SHE doesn't pay. Not once did they say that I owe this money but they are definitely telling me I will not have service come 6/13. This is absolutely ridiculous. They can't legally hold me responsible for that money but they can refuse service to me. I actually called Risk Management back today and asked if this issue will still affect me once I move in August. They said it will not. Do I believe them? No!!!
