* I booked self catering accommodation with this company and paid the full amount as the holiday was due to commence shortly after.
* After I paid the full amount, the terms and conditions were sent to me by Karen Durant. I noticed a term that had not been in the description of the property as advertised-this was, to keep noise at a minimum as the holiday accommodation was located in a residential neighbourhood.
* I immediately informed Karen Durant that the accommodation would not be suitable for us as we had 4 small children and could not guarantee that they would keep nosie to a minimum as specified.
* I pointed out to her that this restriction was not in the description of the property when I booked it and that if it was, I would not have booked it.
*She said that it was there in the description, that I had overlooked it. As it happened, I had already printed off the description of the property for the purpose of showing it to other members of our holiday party. There was no mention of the restriction that Karen Durant had imposed after I had paid for the holiday. However, when I checked again after raising this issue with Karen Durant, I found that she had changed the description of the property to include this term.
*She refused to refund my money (over 1,000) and said that if i wanted to withdraw from the holiday, I would have to pay 300 cancellation fee becaused the owner had lost potential bookings in the day (one day!) that I had booked the holiday before noticing the misrepresentation.
*When I protested at this, Karen Durant told me that I could take out travel insurance and claim for the cancellation on my travel insurance, that she would facilitate this.
* I was quite shocked at this suggestion and refused to do this. She refused to refund my money without deduction of cancellation fee.
* I ended up going on the holiday and as it happened it was fine, save that we were fearful of the children making too much noise.
*then on the last day when we were told we had to leave at 8.00am in the morning to make way for the next lot of guests and we refused as the description of the holiday said 10. Am departure. This was accepted by the care taker but only with the greatest reluctance and bad grace and was a nasty end to a holiday that was fraught with difficulty from the very start.
*all in all, my experience with this lady, karen durant was not at all nice her suggesting insurance fraud was quite shocking.
*booking a holiday with Karen durant would certainly not put you in the holiday spirit!
