Although i was quoted a price to purchase a ticket in coach and upgrade my miles back on January 16th, I have tried numerous times to purchase a ticket the response that i get is thier alliance member (South Africa Air) does not allow upgrades. What is the point of being an alliance member if you cannot get what you want as a consumer? I have been loyal to continental for over 20 years and have flown extensively. I even obtained a continental credit card and had my company that is world wide swith over to using them. That is as of yesterday. Upon being on the phone for three hours last night with no luck of being able to be transferred to someone of authority. The Manager (which has no authoritave say so what is the point) kept putting me on hold upon me asking for contact information with someone that does have some power. What leaves me further disgusted is upon talking to the Manager, since he would not transfer me to a higher level, that this airline is okay at letting a loyal customer slip away after all these years, transfer to another credit card and have the customes company main carrier to be switched over in a simple conversation since his hands are tied and will not allow me to speak to someone else. He kept saying I am sorry i do not know what to tell you and that he had to get off the phone to help other customers. What about me as a customer? There was no regard and in the end he had to hang up on me!!! How does an airline condone this as a normal business practice? It is ubsurd. I guess all my years of loyalty and all the miles i have accrued are useless as what can i use them on if i cannot take one trip and upgrade simply because an alliance member does not accept upgrades? I repeat what is the advantage of this alliance? They are usuless. I need to purchase tickets now (trip in September) and use this as one last attempt for resolve. I believe that is the least i deserve after all these years of being loyal. This is my last attempt before smearing continental/uniteds name.
