Booked a 3-star hotel without knowing the name in order to receive a "deep discount". Ended up with a 2-star dump that I could have booked on Expedia for only $3 more (about a 3% discount). Moreover, booking with the hotel directly would have been less expensive and still given me the right to cancel. Never got burned like this using hotwire, but now I see that they are in collusion, so won't go there again either.
