DECEPTIVE practices! Mixed up our payments with a stranger's

Expedia started out with wonderful information about promotional credits, and great deals. We started out with a group booking of 9 cabins (9 different families). A local plant closed its doors in May and 2 families had to cancel, which left us with 7 cabins. SO, we called in to SPECIFICALLY ask if there would be any penalties, additional charges, or loss of onboard credits because we reduced our group to 7 cabins. We were told by Expedia (quote)"ABSOLUTELY NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES AND NO LOSS OF CREDITS... NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNLESS YOU FALL BELOW FIVE (5) CABINS!" We specifically told them that if there would be any additional charges or penalties we just wanted to cancel, so that we could get all of our money back (it was still before the deadline). But they insisted that as long as we kept 5 cabins or more, nothing would change. SO, we paid our final payments, and the deadline passed. THEN, our group leader got a charge of $175 added onto her account because they "fell below 8 cabins", AFTER Expedia Group Support told us nothing would change! Expedia then tried to pass it off on the cruise line, but as we pointed out to them, they KNEW about that, and we feel they told us that nothing would change so that we would not cancel our bookings. The group leader went ahead and paid the $200, but only because she did not want to keep the families from losing their vacation. And 2 of the families that still went (in addition to the 2 who canceled) had lost their jobs. ADDITIONALLY, Expedia screwed up a payment with a group member who used a Mastercard to pay their final payment (because we were told we would get the Mastercard promotional credit... But in the end did NOT get it!), and they screwed up the payment and charged it to a complete stranger's VISA card!!! It was a complete hassle and mess! I feel Expedia lied to us just to keep us from canceling, KNOWING that after the deadline passed we would not get our money back. Paul from group support was the only sympathetic and helpful consultant. Jessica was rude and impatient and has no business working with the public, in our opinion. Our families will NEVER used Expedia to travel, again!
