And "Cindy" The Flight Attendant Safety of Passengers Compromised, Passenger Berated for Bringing it to their attention

My experience with the flight from Philadelphia to Tampa, departing at 5:50 P.M. On 4/2/04 was bad for the following reasons:

1. Just before takeoff, the flight attendants placed a very large male passenger (I estimate in excess of 340 lbs) next to me and said he would be there only for takeoff and landing because his seatback would not go up. He remained for the entire trip and took a much of the seat I paid for.

I object to the flight attendant being dishonest with me and not returning him to his seat. Had I known he would remain in the seat for the entire flight, I would have moved, or tried to have him sit in one of the two other open seats near me that had smaller passengers on either side, thus making us all more comfortable.

2. During the flight, we experience severe turbulence. While the "fasten seat belt" sign was posted, it was clear that passengers were not taking the posting seriously. No in-flight announcement was made for passengers to return to their seats, even after a particularly violent episode left several passengers on the floor, and on top of other passengers.

At the end of the flight, I asked why no announcement took place. A flight attendant named "Cindy" told me she made an announcement, I told her I did not hear one (nor did any passengers who spoke with me)."Cindy" immediately began personal attacks on me, telling me "I can't help it if customers like you don't listen", "we don't need customers like you", "next time take the bus". This is not the response I expect when I bring up a safety issue to the crew of an aircraft; I disembarked to find a manager to escalate my complaint about the treatment I received from the flight attendant. The flight attendant followed me out of the plane and told me I could not speak with the manager that I was speaking with and if I did not leave immediately, she would have me arrested for "harassment".

3. At the end of the flight, the jet was not properly aligned with the jetway, forcing all passengers to remain on the jet an additional half hour.

4. After disembarkment, all passengers with checked baggage waited for more than an hour to receive their baggage. Every complaint I have ever made with US Airways has fallen upon deaf ears. The behavior of flight attendant "Cindy" after the flight was belligerent and reprehensible; I will file an additional complaint with the FAA for failing to ensure the safety of the passengers.
