Vacation rental home agency breaks the law by keeping security deposits without cause or explanations Palm Springs California

Palm Springs Rental Agency rented us a house for one week at the cost of $4000.00. The security deposit is $700.00 They did not return our deposit or send a letter as required by law (21 days) in California. Now 2 months later, still no refund, no returned phone calls, only threats made in e mails not to call them anymore. Legal action is under way at this time.

CAUTION to everyone looking for a vacation rental house in Palm Springs!

What APPEARS to be the case with Palm Springs Rental Agency, Inc., owned by Peter Brooks, is that they are counting on renting house to people out of town, and that if they keep their deposits, it won't be worth it for the renters to take action to get $700.00 or so back. The renters would spend more money just flying here, and small claims court only allows up to $5000.00 in claims.

Well... The law says otherwise, and they will have to answer to them very soon. F.Y.I. The State of California requires that a rental agency must comply with the state laws which require such agency to send the security deposit back within 21 days, or an itemized statement with selective deductions. If the agency fails to do so, then the state requires that they send the full deposit back no matter what. If they fail to do that and you have to take them to court, then the judge is allowed to order the agency to pay you double the deposit along with court costs, as a penality to the agency.

When this agency corrects the problem I will update this report in fairness NOT because I would trust them in the future. However, until a full investigation can be made by all interested parties i.E. The BBB, Californa Board of Real Estate, I.R.S., and the like, I will continue to believe that they are taking peoples deposits illegally.

This company defames it self with rips off like this. I made a mistake and trusted them... But you can avoid the same mistake.
