Complaint / Review
Dogwood Springs RV Park
Fraudulent service and affiliation claims, hostile, verbally profane & abusive, rude, dishonest, unappealing sites

To whom it may concern: July 1

Despite claims of friendly, service-oriented, and family/kid loving accommodations, the Dogwood Springs RV Park in Jasper Arkansas proved to be the most hostile, worst camping facility in our 30 years of traveling. Their ad is a complete fraud. We stayed with this place just one night June 25th and left under threat of physical violence, verbal abuse, and poor service. You will be best served by considering another RV Park. Please see accompanying comments. Sincerely, Richard Andrews

COMMENTS: Dogwood Springs RV and Campground, Jasper Arkansas

Rude, dishonest, physically threatening, and verbally abusive proprietor and family (Doug Wenzel, wife Tammy, and daughter Tara).

Small, cramped, claustrophobic RV park immediately adjacent to and in plain site of SH 7. Unappealing, unkempt and overgrown landscaping. Only a few sites are capable to accommodate a 28-ft trailer. Sites are too narrow for campfire and awkward to erect an awning.
Poison ivy vines on large tree adjacent to utility hookups.

Office area looks like a used car lot with numerous parked vehicles of family and friends. Cable TV line strung diagonally from ground to main service pole creating walking hazard especially at night. Electric service appeared to consist of obsolete equipment.

We strongly recommend using another campground in the surrounding area. This is the worst, most unaccommodating, stressful, and hostile facility we've experienced in 30 years of traveling. After driving 6 hours to Jasper for a festival, we arrived at Dogwood Springs RV Park on June 25th at 1 PM. Although it was 2 hours before their stated check-in time (3 PM), we requested a site since several were vacant. We anticipated staying 3 nights. Ms. Tammy Wenzel and daughter Tara reluctantly agreed but charged us a $2 per person early fee. We registered for 3 adults and properly notified them that we anticipated 2 additional adults for a very short time during dinner and breakfast. My wife and I then set up our 28-ft trailer. Shortly after 3 PM, I returned to the office and requested removal of trash that filled a portable fire pit. These simple requests evidently triggered unimaginable, inappropriate, and unwarranted hostilities.

During dinner that evening, the owner, Mr. Doug Wenzel approached our campsite and became extremely hostile to our entire party. His M.O. Was to approach individuals including my wife very close with an accusational finger directly in our face. He yelled obscenities repeatedly, accused us of having unauthorized guests and wanted us to leave the campground immediately which we declined. He then demanded that we leave by 11 AM the next morning.

The following morning of June 26, we were having breakfast with our 2 guests while at the same time packing up to leave under physical threats of the proprietor. At this time Mr. Wenzel again approached our site and I met with him to get a refund for the remaining 2-nights for which I pre-paid. We walked to the office where he refused to refund my money and again physically threatened me by asking do you want to fight. His young daughter Tara then called me a prick for requesting early registration and garbage pickup. Thereupon, I returned to our site and continued packing up when Mr. Wenzel again showed up with abundant profanity. While I was disconnecting the sewer line, he grabbed the electric service line from my RV and violently snapped it out of the breaker box loosening the wires to the 3-prong plug.

These same unjustifiable hostilities were directed toward the campers in the site (#8?) adjacent to ours. We both left to stay at another RV Park nearby.

On Friday, June 26, we filed a complaint with the Jasper Police department. While talking with local people during the festival, several reiterated that our treatment was common by the owner of Dogwood Springs RV Park in Jasper. That same evening after leaving the Elk's festival we passed Dogwood Springs RV Park and noticed another RV parked in our site (#9). Apparently, the Wenzels rented out our site (#9) to another group of campers even though Dogwood Springs (a.K.A. Doug Wenzel) refused our refund.
