Sprit Sirlines bad customer service, didn't provide me with what I paid for, STAYWAY

Please note that everything i wrote in here is my experience and whatever i wrote is my opinion. Facts will be presented and it is up to the person who is reading this post to deceide what he/she wishes to do.

I DO OPOLOGY FOR THE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN ADVANCE (English is not my native language)

After spending hours on the internet searching for cheap ticket using the term cheap ticket, I purchased 3 airlines ticket on 5/20 from spirit airlines; because I read somewhere if I signed up for $9 deal I would receive low fares. Well, the cost is high.
It is not low

The reservation was booked for me, my 65 years mother and my 15 years old nephew departing from Orlando to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I made an error on the spelling of my nephew's name; I contacted them immediately after I received the confirmation via email. This woman from India by the name of Sasha refused to changed the name unless she cancel the reservation and made a new one and it will cost me 52.00 more, I refused to pay it (I guess they get pay base on number of reservation made). After waiting for a supervisor for over 42 minutes on the phone, I got to speak with this man call Gerald, he was so rude, I informed him I saw the ticket online at a less popular website for 286.00 per person, and I paid 303.00 but because spirit airlines offer $9 deal and my family and I travel a lot so I thought it was a good deal and I also informed him if I have to pay 52.00 more I will make sure to let everyone I know to stay away from spirit airlines because of bad customer service and unfair billing, he was not too happy about that, he placed me on hold for an additional 11 minutes then came back and told me it will cost me 256.00 dollars more instead of 52.00 to make the change, because the price I received is no longer available. He also informed me my ticket was non-refundable all I will get is a voucher.

By this time we were not getting anywhere and I was not going to give them a penny to change the name. I contacted a good friend of my who is a lawyer we did a three way call and we got a different agent and we spoke with another supervisor, who decided as a courtesy they will change it.

Well my friends if you think my trouble was over you are WRONG.

My flight was booked for 5/27/09 departing Orlando at 8:45 am and arriving Fort Lauderdale at 9:45 am, departing Fort Lauderdale at 3:15 and arrive in Port-Au-Prince at 4:15. At approximately 2:00 they announced the flight was delayed due to weather condition, new expected arrival time in Haiti will be 5:15, then at 4:00 they annoused new departure will be at 5:15 and arrive at 6:15. Then at 4:30 they announced the flight is canceled and ask everyone to go back to the checking area for rebooking. Remind you that the person who was picking us up at the airport in Haiti left his house since 1:30 and he doesn't have a cell phone, so there is no way to call him and let him know the flight was canled, so he end up leaving the airport in Haiti at almost midnight. I called Haiti I was told it was not raining; it was just a little cloudy. Waste of my time

After staying in line at the ticket counter for over 1 hour I was told I will be placed on the next day flight at 9:30am. Because the flight was canceled due to the weather they cannot provide me with any additional help. We are not from Fort Lauderdale and don't know anyone in the area plus the hotel in the area were very expensive, so sleeping on the floor was the only option we had. At approximately 6:00 am we check in, my nephew and I was placed on standby and my mother was confirmed for the 5/28/09 9:30 am flight. Well the 9:30 am flight was full and since we were on stand by we had to wait for the next flight which will be departing at 3:15. At 2:20 they announced the flight was canceled again but this time it was for mechanical problem, so we need to go back to the ticket area for rebooking. While I was waiting on line, I found out, there is always a problem with international flight, and some domestic because spirit airlines will not fly unless the flight is fully book.

I believed Spirit airline should have had confirmed a seat for everyone whose flight was canceled from the day before, because that would be good customer service.
The problem is that they are taking people money and they don't guarantee you a seat, because they can use any excuse to cover themselves. I really believe this is so they can make more money

I was told there would be no additional flight for the day but they will place us on American airline on 5/29/09 at 2:30.By this time I was so frustrating and angry, because not only for the flight situation but I had placed $ 1140.00 in a sock and put in my shoes for safe keeping somehow between the 5 to 7 trips to ticket counter and security check point I lost the sock with the money. I had to get loud, so they call Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Police department on me, and an option was giving to me it is either I take the offer flying with AA the next day or get escort out of the terminal and a refund will issue to the credit card I book the reservation with.

This is the last time I will fly with spirit airlines. So I spend two days at the airport, I lost 1140.00 somewhere in the termninal or check point, the managers and the ticket agent are rude, the reservation department at some foreign country is going trying to ripoff american like me like you by incresing they commission or quota. So if I were you I would aviod flying with Spirit Airlines. That is my opinion.
