After searching on the internet for Chicago hotels, I called an "800" number for reservations. I made the reservation, but was quoted a price that was $33.05 more than the advertised rate on-line. I thought it was due to taxes and kept the reservation. When I checked out after my stay, the only itemized charges from the hotel were incidentals (phone, parking). I was told that the room charge would be mailed to me. I was concerned, as I need to expense my trips immediately with original receipts. As soon as I returned to my office, I began trying to get a copy of my room charge. The hotel was unable to help me, as they said my reservation was made through HRN Services Inc, and that company would bill me.
In trying to find Hotel Reservation Services on the web, I was connected to various websites, but not the correct one I made reservations through. After finding a copy of the site in my recycled paper box, I located "hoteldiscounts.com", the correct site. I tried calling the 800 number and got looped around and disconnected. I tried other 800 numbers, including the 800 directory and the national reservations line for my hotel. Somewhere along the way, someone explained who HRN Services is and what they do.in every case, I made a point of saying this is a terrible way to do business, as no one could help me retrieve an itemized copy of my room bill from the hotel.
I finally called the hotel and asked for the General Manager's office. I registered my unhappines in their partnership with a truly ripoff organization and asked that they pass my comments along. The only documentation I can get is from using the Customer Services link off Hoteldiscounts.com site and entering my reservation number.
Meanwhile, through a co-worker who accompanied me on this trip, I found out the hotel actually charged me a rate of $50 less than what I apparently paid to Hoteldisounts.
Hoteldiscounts.com is a TRUE RIPOFF, as they are in the business of positioning themselves to the consumer as a "discounter", when in fact they are there to dip into your pockets and profit greatly from their misrepresentation. Their NASDAQ symbol is "ROOM". Robert Diener is the President and Co-Founder. I would stay far away from this company and make sure your portfolios do not include them. Pass the word that this company is a terrible hoax on the consumer. It should be illegal to label yourself as a discounter when you in fact have no true discounts available!
