Our group bought 16 coach airline tickets to go to Germany in March. For about $400. Per person. 15 of us left together and the 16th person, our 18 yr old son left 2 days later on United Airlines. We were all issued paper tickets, not E tickets.
When our son arrived at the United ticket counter to check in, he could not find his paper ticket. He showed the ticket agent his passport and gave her his flight #. She verified his flight and told him the computer showed that the ticket was paid as part of the group.
She then told him that since he did not have his paper ticket, he would be required to purchase a new coach ticket FOR THE SAME FLIGHT for $3,271.00.
He said he didn't have $3271.00 with him, called me on his cell phone. I spoke with him and the ticket agent. She insisted that he could not travel unless he bought a new ticket. I gave her my Credit card # to pay for his ticket. She said if he found his original ticket, to return the ticket to Untied Airlines and they would issue a refund for the $3271.00
After returning home 10 days later, the ticket was found and returned to United Airlines via Registered US mail for a refund. The company has ignored letters, not returned phone calls and today we filed a small claims law suit against them for the $3271.00
