Another victim who's been taken in by the Ramada name! I want my money back!

I am attaching the letter I mailed to Ramada Plaza Resorts last November 5. To date (Nov. 13), I have yet to hear from them. I hope there is someone who can help me with this problem. It's too late for regrets now but how I wish I found out about this website sooner — made me realize there are a lot of complaints about this vacation/cruise. I can't believe it's a scam and I've been fooled.

To Whom It May Concern:

I bring to your attention my disappointment about your Ramada Florida vacation and Bahamas cruise.

Upon receiving mail from you last April I was skeptical but at the same time excited to receive a free cruise voucher. My husband thought it was an outright scam, but since I haven't been to the Bahamas, I told him I wanted to give it a try, so I called your office to find out more details.in short, we paid a down payment of $798.00 on April 28, and then in August, we finalized our plans and spoke with Annette Downy from Reservations. Additional fees of $198.00, plus an upgrade fee of $99.00, were paid on August 25.

Then about two weeks ago, I got a call a call informing me that the dates I selected for the cruise have to be moved as the boat will be in dry dock. What I don't understand is, when my husband and I selected the January dates as we finalized our itinerary with Annette, we took into account the dates that the boat was, and was not, going to be available. We chose a week in January because it coincided with my birthday, and Annette confirmed that week was OK. We were told to just wait for confirmatory mail from your company that would come about 30 days before our set date.

When I told my husband about your notification that the boat will be in dry dock on the very week we selected, the more suspicious he became about your vacation offer being a scam. He told me to stop this nonsense and just get our money back. Actually, he just went along this plan to please me, as the dates I specifically selected fall on my birthday. I, myself, am totally disappointed with the turn out.

And to make matters worse, an incident occurred last Friday, November 02, at around 4:00 pm, when I called Reservations to speak with Annette. I was told that Annette had left for the day, and the person I talked with (who I later learned was Angela Chambers) was very rude. She asked why I called, and I told her that if my cruise has to be moved, then I'd rather get my money back. For someone who works in customer service, she is rude and does not listen to the customer (me) airing their side. Her tone and manner of speaking lacked professional courtesy. I got upset and raised my voice and in return she raised her voice too, and then had the audacity to hang up the phone while I was still talking!

That type of treatment is something I can't accept, so I called up again and this time got to speak with a Samantha Hunter (4082) who is the opposite of that Angela. She listened and she empathized. She actually offered some options, but she also said that the cruise is non-refundable. She stated that there is a 30-day grace period in which to cancel from the time we booked. However, I countered, the 30 days should not apply to us as we were only informed about the boat not being available 2 weeks ago. I was looking forward to that cruise on my birthday. Then when I received the bad news that the boat is not available, my excitement was dampened. On top of this, I had to deal with a rude employee, and my husband telling me 'I told you so', confirming his belief that this offer was never real.

I am writing the president of this company, or whomever in the complaints department, to request that something be done about this. Specifically, my husband and I are requesting a refund of the money we paid. He said the vacation is a scam and whatever dates we had originally chosen, would eventually turn out to be a time that the boat would be unavailable. As much as I tell him it's the Ramada name at stake, he said he will only believe it's not a scam if you return our money in good faith.

Please respond to our request within a week.

So there. I will also file a complaint to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

I am sharing my bad experience with you. Can something be done about that company? Help, please.
