I have never been so angry and upset than when I was railroaded (certainly in my mind at least) and mislead (oh yes, the people at Roark mislead me) than when I purchased a membership in the Roark Vacation Travel Club. This happened in on June 27; a date that I lost over $7,000 (SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS).
Not sure where to start, this? Club' is such a rip-off it is unbelievable. When I was given a leather folder with information in it I couldn't really see any hard and fast information about the money I would save. After finally getting home from Branson, MO my wife and I sat down to take a look at it and log on to their site. If we took a vacation with the best deals they have to offer for every year for the next 20 years we would not save enough money to cover 20% of what we spent on this fiasco. The one time after that I went to their site to see if I could save any money on 3 airline tickets for my grandchildren to Idaho was ridiculous. The Vacation Travel Club site quoted prices MORE EXPENSIVE than any I could find on the internet with my own search using expedia.com, orbitz.com, etc. And not just by a little, I saved nearly a hundred dollars a ticket by NOT using Roark VTC.
I sent a certified return receipt letter to the company (which I still have a copy of and the return receipt I got) asking to be let out of the contract. Weeks later the company called and asked me what was wrong. I told them that I was unhappy with my purchase and pleaded with them to release me from it. Obviously that was a no-go. I called the credit company (I actually used two credit cards since it was such a large amount). Although they said they could contest it they had received similar calls about this company before and stated that they would probably fight it and that my odds of winning were not good. At that point I lost my spirit... I couldn't bring myself to think about the loss anymore and I felt defeated. I pretty much gave up.
I noted on this site that most people lost only about $3,500. How in the heck did it cost me $7,763 AND $169.85 a year in dues? I have been totally shafted by this company!
Then I found this site and my interest in fighting them is renewed. If I can't get out of this contract at least I might be able to warn others. I read with interest someone's statement on this site that they were going to picket Roark on a busy weekend. I still go to Branson on holiday's about once or twice a year. I can certainly find out when they are having a sales pitch and make up some nice signs and hang out in front for a while.

I just purchased these so there is nothing there yet, but before this summer is well underway I will have my story posted on all of them and I will do what it takes to get them listed on the search engines to drive traffic there.
