It is now the word of the hotel manager against mine that I or a member of my family smoked in her hotel. She can provide no proof nor can she even tell me which of the three rooms we used the alleged crime was committed. So far the manager is unable to produce any proof that it was actually my party that committed the offense and for all I know it could have been a housekeeper or another guest as well as it could have been me. What means do I have and why should I believe I will not be accused of the same next time I stay at a Marriott property? What defense do I have to prevent any hotel staff from assessing charges at their will to my credit card?
