Minivacations Took our Honeymoon Cruise Money and Split
My husband and I were married Oct. 2—and the day we got back from the chapel, I had to go into the hospital for surgery. Because we didn't get to take a honeymoon—my husband surprised me with a cruise to be taken in Jan&We paid for our passports—sent in a $500.00 deposit and then sent them 699.00 more dollars. We had not received our tickets two weeks before departure as our material said—and called customer service—there was no answer—so I got online to see if I could find another number to call on the website&no website.
I called information and they gave me a couple of numbers—no answers there either. My husband had purchased a Grand Getaways Club Membership in which an Exotic All Inclusive Dream Vacation Vertificate for 2 for 4 days and 3 nights all inclusive and a certificate for a dream cruise for 2 adults—7 nights. We had to pay port fees and upgrades—which came to 1199.00. We had chosen the Carvnival Cruise Elation out of Galveston and had taken off work, started packing, etc, plush purchased passports.
We called Grand Getaways and they told us that minivacations had shut their doors and didn't give any forwarding information and that they had been getting calls all day. He apologized but said there was nothing they could do. We had paid the deposit with a credit card, but the 699.00 was a check that had long since been cashed. It seems to me that Grand Getaways had some liability here, but they said they didn't. We have purchased travel insurance with Travelex and they refused to pay also—they said that they would only pay of Carnival cruise line canceled the cruise—not the agency who booked it or in our case took the money, ripped us off and didn't book the vacation.
Needless to say&we didn't get to go on a cruise and that was the money we had saved for it. I hope someone can help us get our money back! HELP!
