I just returned from Frankfurt where I was denied boarding because (I take full blame) my passport did not have the requisite number of stampless pages. This is a policy that went into effect since my last visit and even my Namibian hosts who bring in MANY international guests were unaware of it.
My issue was that they didn't try to help. Just a blanket refusal. When it was brought up that I could go to the US consulate and get pages inserted, they "checked" and I was told it was a two week wait.
Lie #1: I spoke with the consulate. It could have been done in a morning and I could have flown the next night.
I asked if I could pay to ship parcels of donations that I was bringing for an AIDS charity. With a smile I was informed that they don't send packages without an accompanying passengers.
Halftruth #1: they COULD have directed me to Air Namibia freight where my donations would have been shipped.
These are bad bad people who genuinely seemed to take glee in screwing over paying passengers as opposed to working through problem solving.
