Wireless Billing Complaint

Beware: On August I entered into a agreement for a wireless connection for our computer to use at the cottage at a costs of approx. $65.00 per month. Realizing technology and times have changed, as well as customer plans, I called Bell on November 6 and inquired about getting out of my wireless plan as it was old fashion, outdated and I wasn't really using it (albeit I had spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 1200.00). At this time I was informed that my 3 year plan ran until August and at that time there would be no more charges. I was then informed to reduced my monthly costs I could go to my local bell mobility store and pick up a new turbo stick (updated, modern and quick) and take advantage of a $200 customer credit, reduce my monthly bill to $35.00 and leaving me with the impression that all would end with a simple phone call today. Keep in mind I probably haven't used my new turbo stick three times since last November, and the Bell store did give me paperwork to sign when I picked up this suggested change.

Today I discovered that the new turbo stick goes until November (even though I have not used it at all) and if I want out early how about a $ 300.00 penalty. Employee number 6030659 and I got into a heated debate about the ethics of Bell versus the ambush of the customer, I didn't realize I was in for an additional $300.00 or had agreed to an additional 2 year plan (beware of the reams of paper and quickness of the store personnel). I have to say they have offered me an additional 10% off ($3.00 per month) to accommodate my discussion with little choice but to accept.

It is time for government regulations of these monopolies and their reams of paperwork and contracts that allow them to continue to scam their customers and then try to appease them with 10%. Well Bell Canada will soon lose all of our family business (after years of dedicated spending): satellite Tv, home phone, cell services etc and will soon be looking for future customers. I will encourage my children to move to other companies, I will tell my friends and neighbors and finally I will write to every politician (as many should) and ask for strict regulations on this industry. I have always been aware of paying and always followed the rules and direction of the customer agents on the phone, but with Bell it seems every time you call you have been walked into more long term programs with incentives and you keep paying for goods you never use.

I am somewhat disappointed by their attitude as they were the people who offered to help me reduce my non usage internet connection with a cheaper alternative that ended up costing me more for not using it at all. What a mess and this is probably why I am typing this on my I Pad using a Rogers wireless (bundled for all my I Pads and phones) instead of ever working with or recommending Bell again.

Please pass on to your many readers so they to don'y get scammed like I did and end up in a heated discussion on your cancelation date with mere 10% discount - I should have kept arguing and may have got more.
