Request for Assistance in Exposing Spectrum’s False Advertising and Deceptive Practices

Dear [TV Show Name or Consumer Advocate],

I am writing to bring attention to an alarming situation I have been enduring with Spectrum (Charter Communications) that I believe many other consumers may also be experiencing. For the past five months, I have been subjected to misleading advertising, deceptive practices, and poor service, and I believe it’s time their actions are brought into the public eye.

Here’s what happened to me:

False Advertising About “Anytime Upgrades”
Spectrum’s commercials and in-store advertisements boast of “anytime phone upgrades, no questions asked” under their Unlimited Plus Plan. However, after paying for this plan for months, I was recently informed by Spectrum management that this benefit is restricted to a “select group of customers” and subject to credit checks—details that were never disclosed in the advertisements. This constitutes blatant false advertising.

Failure to Honor a Buyout Offer
When I switched to Spectrum from T-Mobile, I was promised that Spectrum would buy out my T-Mobile devices, including my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, earbuds, and tablet. Months later, they still haven’t honored this promise, leaving me to cover the costs of devices I no longer use.

Incompetent Service and Misinformation
From the start, Spectrum’s customer service has been disastrous.

The local representative in Defiance, Ohio, gave me an Apple iPhone without providing a passcode, rendering the phone useless over an entire weekend.
When I returned to the store, they swapped the iPhone for a compromised Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. This device is incompatible with the Apple iPad I also received from Spectrum, further obstructing my ability to work.
For an entire month, I had no internet or reliable home service because the same representative gave me the wrong router.
Billing Errors and Service Interruptions
Spectrum failed to disclose accurate billing amounts on multiple occasions, resulting in unexpected interruptions to my phone service. Despite assurances that my phone service would remain active through January 2025, it was shut off in December 2024, adding to my frustration and hardship.

Harm to My Livelihood
As someone relying on technology for work, Spectrum’s actions have severely impacted my ability to perform tasks critical to my livelihood. Their unwillingness to resolve these issues has left me paying for services and devices that I cannot fully use.

I believe Spectrum’s business practices warrant serious scrutiny. Their deceptive advertising and failure to honor commitments are harming consumers, and their lack of accountability leaves customers like me without options.

I am reaching out to you because I need help exposing this injustice and holding Spectrum accountable. I have documentation, photos, and other evidence to support my claims. I hope you will consider investigating and sharing my story to warn others about these deceptive practices.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Donald “Dee” Smith
