I tried to cancel by phone a few times, and each time was told I would have to come in. I argued that I started working and going to school part-time and live relatively far away, so that would be really inconvenient. After a lot of calls, hold time, and repeating my plea and personal account info to different people, I was finally told I could send a registered letter to cancel.
At this point, for one reason or another, I got a new credit card number and cancelled the old one. Unbeknownst to me, I continued getting charged despite cancelling the credit card I used for membership. Charges piled up, and when I finally got the general manager on the phone after being given the runaround for a month, he says even if I cancel now, they'll CONTINUE charging me for 60 days after the cancellation.
This place operates like those supplement scams on the radio, with ridiculous cancellation policies that work out because credit card laws are so in favor of vendors right now. They claim to be a friendly neighborhood place, but try asking for a little courtesy leeway and see what happens. Really, avoid this place.
