After discovering that I had lost at least 25 huge oak trees in Hurricane Sandy, I contacted Fisher Saw Mill after finding their site through google and asked them if they had any interest in the wood, figuring it would cut my clean-up costs. A John Fisher responded to my email, I sent photos of the trees, and he asked to meet me out on the property the next day. I had a meeting and couldn't be there, but he said he went to take a look himself and give me a price that was half of another tree service. He asked for full payment of cash upfront and I of course thought that was ridiculous. But he went through a long rap about the costs of mobilizing the teams and equipment and when I received the contract (a generic one with 'Fisher Saw Mill etc" handwritten in), I sent them a check (made out to Fisher Saw Mill) for half that amount. Suffice it to say that once the check was cashed, they didn't contact me again, and when I was finally able to get John on the phone, he told me not 'to panic' and that the crew would be there today (12/03 and a week later than originally agreed). Early this morning, I hid my caller ID and was able to reach John again. He said that he was at another job in NJ, but that he 'believed' that my crew was already on their way to my house. When I arrived on the site this afternoon, however, I saw that they never showed. Now, none of the phone numbers I was given for the various company and team members pick up, and when I spoke to others in my area who dealt with them, they too said Mike Mazy (their sales person, apparently) had asked for very large cash deposits up front.
I have my lawyer on their trail at the moment, but wanted to make sure no one else got caught up in their scam. Fisher Saw Mill is a scam. Do not do any business with them.
