I received a charge on my credit card for $179.95 entered 8/19/04, from MWI Essentials Plus. I called the "800" number and was told that this charge was for a one year subscription that entitles me to obtain discounts at stores like Target etc.
I told the woman I was speaking with, Belinda, that I made no such purchase. She explained to me that an introductory offer was sent to my home with a 30-day free trial membership for this subscription. I asked what the company had in its possession from me authorizing such a purchase. I got no answer to this question, but she did say that my account would be credited, and gave a reference #15045.
I checked with my credit card company this am and was told that I was credited only $159.95. I called Essentials Plus again, and was told the credit was pro-rated. I was not told this the first time I called. I told the person I was speaking with today, Hinchin, that I wanted a full refund today. I was told that it would take two business days and was given her supervisor's id # of C14166.
I phoned my credit card company back and was told that the finance charges accrued would be "taken care of". The absolutely amazing thing about this is that I was told by
three different people from the credit card company, AND the mayor's office on consumer affairs, that this WAS LEGAL... That once a company has my credit card number for a purchase over the phone or the internet, they could, in fact, charge me for something totally different in the future WITHOUT my permission.
If someone stole my credit card and charged something I did not authorize, wouldn't they be arrested? So far, this has taken nearly 4 hours of my limited time and has caused me extreme aggravation. And, I will be wasting even more time reading every piece of junk mail sent to me. Thank you for whatever can be done, or for whatever information you can give; and, thank you! For having this WEB site!!!
