Fraudulent low estimate refusad to move all furniture failure to deliver by contractually guarenteed deadline refusal to pay for damaged furniture

I would like people to know about the fraudent and bad faith practices of Ryder's van Lines. They moved only some of my stuff, cost me twice their estimate, delivered my furniture outside of their contractual guarnantee and refused to compensate me for furniture they damaged.

INFLATING ESTIMATE
On May 24, I was contacted by an associate from Ryders Van Lines, named Bob (a last name was not given). Bob gave an estimate of $1,296.00. I chose Ryders Van Lines over other alternatives based off the price quoted. While talking with Bob, I mentioned several times that I had weight lifting equipment. Bob told me that the estimate included moving my weight lifting equipment.

When the movers showed up to take my furniture on May 31, I was told that it would exceed the 400 cf. (400 cf. Was the square footage that Bob's estimate was based on). The mover (the apparent supervisor of the 3 people whom showed up to move my furniture) estimated my furniture would be 600 cf. Totaling $1,944.00. This new estimate included my weight lifting equipment. Having no alternative at this point, I agreed to the new estimate (having foregone making alternative arrangements, I was in a bind. My stuff needed to be moved. I had little choice at this point).

After loading the majority of my furniture, the mover informs me that the total cost of moving all of my furniture, including my weights, would exceed $4,000.00 (well over three times my original estimate). The expressed terms of the contract with Ryders Van Lines are, the cost for an estimated volume of load is based on the actual cubic feet of your belongings. However, I was informed that this would not be the case for my belongings.instead of the contract price, instead of the formula used in two estimates by agents from Ryders Van Lines, I would be charged per pound for certain pieces of my furniture. This made the entire arrangement, which had already gone from reasonable (i.E., the original estimate) to ridiculous (the inflated estimate that I was given only after I had forgone making other arrangements), to absolutely outrageous (nearly four times the original estimate). I had no choice but to have the movers leave some of my belongings (which are currently in storage in Maryland).

In the end, despite all estimates to the contrary, I ended up paying $2,435.50.in other words, I paid twice as much in order for them to only move some of my furniture.

DELIVERY:
My contract with Ryders Van Lines says: Your earliest delivery date is when you are physically at the delivery location and the premise is available for delivery. The delivery time frame of 14 business days begins on your first available date. Delivery time frames are calculated in business days only (Mon. To Fri., excluding weekends and holidays).

To add insult to injury, not only was my furniture delivered late, I had to argue with an agent about how to count to 14. My furniture was picked up on May 31st (a Monday). It was available for delivery June 1st (Tuesday). It was delivered on Saturday, June, 19th. This exceeds the 14 business day guarentee. An associate of Ryders Van Lines (Ethan) actually tried to argue with me and say that the delivery was somehow within the 14 day guarantee. I was so infuriated that I offered to mail them a copy of the documentation that I had showing when my furniture was picked up and when it was delivered and a calendar where I l marked off the days.

DAMAGED PROPERTY:
The original truck that my furniture had been loaded into broke down and my furniture had to be moved into another truck. The condition of my belongings testifies to this. My stuff looked like it had been thrown around. Every single piece of my furniture was beat up. There wasn't a single box that wasn't dented, there wasn't a single box that didn't look like it had been thrown around.

To add insult to injury, when my furniture was delivered to my home there was a plastic container that contained approximately 2 inches of water. I considered this my rain meter. Every box removed from that truck had water stains. Not to mention my mattress was covered with moldy brown water stains!

I contacted the company regarding my damaged furniture. Thus far, Ryders Van Lines has refused to honor my claim for any damaged property. It is worth noting, the replacement of my damaged furniture is within the insurance proceeds from the policy that Ryders Van Lines insisted I purchase before moving my furniture.
