April 4th, I went into a Family Dollar store to buy some TP and a few candles. The instant I walked into the store I was shouted at by the store clerk, a really bitchy (sorry, don't have any other descriptive that describe her personality) female screaming at me for my backpack. I don't want to give someone my backpack.
So I go back and get some TP and some candles and walk up to the register and the woman asks me if I heard her wanting my back pack and I said yes. She then asked me why I didn't give it to her. I said I didn't want to. It's my backpack, not hers. It's illegal to confiscate any personal property off of a customer for any reason. So she proceeded to tell me that it was their policy (to confiscate backpacks) but I didn't agree to any policy. I'm not giving anyone my back pack. It's mine! She then said she would not allow me to buy the TP and candles then. I had to leave the items at the counter and leave without anything.
Also, it is treating the customer like a already made criminal. I refuse to be treated like a criminal by a store! I've never stolen anything in my life and I refuse to be treated like a criminal just become someone else might? No thanks! According to the constitution I'm innocent until proven guilty of any crime but according to the poilicy of Family Dollar I'm an already guilty before I walked through the store doors.
I'm a disabled American. I have damage in my shoulders for why I wear a back pack to bring things home in so I don't have to carry items long distances so I can get access to things I need without risking damage to my body. And just because I have a backpack on I get yelled at several times just walking through the store, bells are ringing, the clerk is freaking out like someone already stole something, and then I get reprimanded when I go to buy some things.
I want this Dollar Store sued. It doesn't belong in operation if it can't treat paying legal customers like criminals.
