A young man came to my house last night selling magazine subscriptions. He said he would get a certain amount of points for each subscription he sold to go toward helping with his education. He was very personable. I was concerned when my order came to 40 dollars for one subscription.
I always pay bills in full so I thought it was odd that he didn't want the full amount and that I could pay half and then send in the other half later. I gave him a check for the full amount but after he left I just didn't feel right about it.
He said that he was going door to door with his friend, but I didn't see a "friend" After looking at the receipt I saw that it was marked as a total for 35.00 then paid 15.00 with a balance of 20.00.
Below that there was a processing includes premium bonus amount tacked on of 5.00
So this morning I looked them up on Google and decided to put a stop payment on he check which cost me 27.00. I guess that is better than them charging me 40.00 and getting nothing.
I guess I am too kind hearted, and should have looked them up on the internet last night before deciding to buy. Well, at least I am only out 13.00 and not magazines, but I know it was the right thing to do.
