The ONE Houston company that you should NEVER consider for your garage door needs or repairs is Crown Overhead Door, and this statement is made by someone who trusted them for nearly 10 years. are the events that occurred.
After being their regular customer for nearly 10 years and paying them for routine service and repairs to our garage door, our electric motor failed. One of Crowns reps appeared and quoted $920.12 to install a new,
hp motor. Im 66 and my wife is 65; and neither of us wanted to spend several days, getting estimates and being forced to lift the door manually until a new motor was installed.
I specifically asked Crowns rep if the quoted price was fair as I had been a customer for quite a long time; in response, the rep said, Yes, this is a special price that reflects a 10% (existing customer) discount. So, I told him to proceed and paid for the new motor against Crowns invoice number 111170.
A few weeks later, our regular handyman was at our home and noticed the new garage door motor. We were just chatting about the constant maintenance costs of older homes, and I mentioned what I had paid for the new
motor. Our handyman looked shocked and told me that installed prices for hp motors typically are in the $300-350 range.
Well, shame on me for trusting Crown; but wait, the story gets even better! In January, our garage door broke and my wife, who was unaware of my conversation with our handyman, called Crown to quote on a new
garage door. The same rep appeared at our home and quoted $1,650.00 for a new door on estimate number 114173.
Thankfully, I arrived at the house before my wife said yes and had the new door installed. I told Crowns rep that I was going to get at least two other quotes and said that I would call him. He left but later the same day called back and said: Now that youre getting quotes, Ill sell you the same door for $550.00.
I selected another company to install the new door, but once again, the story gets even better yet again!
After losing my business, three different women called me from Crown. It took several conversations, but I was eventually told that I would receive a $600.00 refund check for the overcharging of the motor within the next week silly me, I believed them.
One week later, I called back and was told that the check had been issued - would I please wait a week, then call back a second time if the check still hadnt been received or cleared their bank, Crown would issue a new check. Silly, stupid and profoundly trusting me, I believed them once more (yes, I must be incredibly stupid).
Yesterday, I called the office as requested as the check had not arrived. At that point, I was told that the check was never issued because you purchased the new door from someone else. Two weeks previously, Crown already knew that I had purchased the door elsewhere the refund check was supposedly being issued for the motor overcharge and was in no way contingent on my purchase of the new door which, in fact, was already known to have been made elsewhere.
There is one and only one moral to this story avoid Crown Overhead Door.in all my years, I have never encountered a more dishonest, greedy and deceitful company.
