Hire Standards came to trouble shoot my Pool heater. Said Transformer was bad. Estimated cost at Approx $100.00. Had to order. Called next day, and said cost was $273.00, and they couldn't tell me if this would fix the problem.
Tried to sell me a new heater, for $4900.00. I checked internet for the transformer, and purchased it online for $33.31, Shipped, from Amazon.installed it in 10 minutes, and worked beautiful.
Hire Standards could not explain why a $33.31 part was being charged to me for $ 273.00. That's a 900% markup!
Even factoring in $100.00 labor, (for a 10 Minute replacement) that's outrageous! They told me that was the industry standard markup. I checked with the local Master pools parts house, and was quoted an over the counter parts cost of $59.00.
Something is definitely wrong with this company...
