Damaged my brand new couch, slapped duct tape on it, wrapped
it up and stored it (collecting my on time payments for approx 18months) then
refused to reimburse me!
TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! (Full story below)
Awful experience!
Purchased new furniture right before an unexpected move. Was
forced to store my brand new items and unfortunately I chose Astro in St James, NY
to store with.
Over a year (... Add it up, a 21 months worth of on time, full
payments made to this horrendous company totaling over $1,500) later I retrieved my furniture.
I chose to self move (U-Haul) to save a little money. (ha!)
When I arrived to pick up my furniture I was greeted by the
most unprofessional staff I've ever seen. Granted - it's a moving company - but
I'm still paying good money and expect a little effort.
The staff (if you could even call them that) unwrapped all
of my items EXCEPT my brand new couch. They told me the couch would fit better
in the truck if they left it wrapped because it was oversized and the moving
cloths and tape would leave it more compact. This seemed logical.
When I arrived at my new residence shortly after and
unwrapped my brand new couch it had a gigantic slit through the front of it -
stuffing coming out UNDER duct tape and wrapping.
This either happened at my last apartment or while in
storage but it was 100% evident that Astro knew about the irreparable damage,
taped it up and rewrapped my item. Unacceptable.
Furhtermore when I "filed a claim" for my $1300
couch I was told that my insurance on the item was only 30cents/lb and it was
only worth $36.
I submitted photos along with my claim (happy to share
them!) and was told they were AWARE that they were responsible for this damage
- but still would not give a cent over $36 to make this right.
I am disgusted by them and urge urge urge you NOT TO DO
BUSINESS with Astro Moving and Storage!!!
