Neighbors moving deplorable customer service - would not reimburse me even though they delivered my things 5 days late

Do not, do not use this company. They are liars, rude, incompetent, and untrustworthy. Please do not use them i swear you will regret it. Email me if you want proof via texts and emails of how horrible these people are and how poorly they handled my cross country move.

I know all of you looking up moving companies probably see this everywhere. Moving companies have both good and bad reviews like everything else in life. This taking it in stride attitude is how I approached my cross country move with Neighbors Moving & Storage and I have never had a worse experience in my entire life. Please, please heed my advice and DO NOT book with this company. They are rude, do not return/answer phone calls after you move with them, nor are their people educated on any type of customer service or trouble shooting. It is the most rinky dink operation, hidden fees, rude, dishonorable people and I am thoroughly disgusted in their claim that they have been in business for over 70 years. This must be false advertising.

But again, why take my word for it right? When I asked several of their employees (the person I booked the move with, their logistics person, and someone in customer service) they all told me the same thing: All of those bad reviews are other moving companies trying to discredit us. How convenient they all had the same story. I guess they had been trained in one thingdeception.

The short story: They booked my move in early December. I was trying to save money moving from Indianapolis to New York City and my new job was not paying for relocation services. I spoke with a booking agent named Chris C. He was very nice and booked my move for me. I specifically asked, Chris, are there any other hidden fees besides what I see on my estimate? His answer, No maam the only overage you will have to pay is if you go over your weight. He also said he gave me three wardrobe boxes for $12, I come to find on the day of my move this is not the case. I am being charged for all three wardrobe boxes (conveniently they never brought them to me but I was still charged). Also, hidden in the tiniest print on the contract that the Chris did not inform me about are all of the hidden fees. If the drivers walk more than 75 feet (and they just do an approximate, they dont measure it out in front of you so you are stuck paying no matter what) it is $75. If you have even one flight of stairs but with one or more landings, another $75. Also, they charge you for tape, wrapping your furniture even in pads, and if they wrap your furniture specially, they dont tell you and just charge you for it. Also, the company does not move you themselves. They hire it out to another company. The dont tell you the company they hire you out to until 12 hours before you are picked up (despite my efforts to call several days ahead and figure out a time and logistics as it was right after the New Year). So, you dont get to research the company they sub-contract you out to in the 7 day period you would need to cancel your contract with them. Deception. ABSOLUTE DECEPTION AND RUDENESS.

Now, many of you would say buyer beware because you didnt read the contract. I get this, but when you ask the booking agent 4 or 5 times if there are any other fees and they say no, call me crazy but you may believe them. Nave yes, but again you dont expect to be duped by a supposedly reputable company.

This is not even the worst of it. I was nervous about all of the bad reviews and I was transferred to a man named Vans Johnson. Besides not letting me get a word in edgewise, he tried to tell me he would be my personal moving consultant every step of the way. He gave me his personal phone number to call him and ask about my move and told me to write a great review when I have exquisite service with his company. Another consultant, Jay M., tried to reassure me as well. These men were rude, fast-talking, and didnt hold up their end of the bargain. When I texted Vans like he told me to, I never got a response. I called, and he lied to my mother telling her I had been bugging him and called him three times that morning. Lies. This was Jan. 1 and they had not confirmed if my things would be picked up on the 2nd or 3rd of January. Call me crazy but I kind of wanted to know when to expect movers that would supposedly be driving my things 714 miles into Manhattan. They were rude, did not return my phone calls, and one of their officers named Prunette Bennet told me the WRONG company. So I was calling a company in New York City that had no idea what I was talking about. Absolutely ridiculous.

Well I was finally contacted by a woman named Camila A. (the owner and one woman operating show) from South Moving Transportation. Excuse me? A one-woman company who is the only one answering phones and coordinating cross-country moves from Southern Florida? Again, ridiculous. But I was never told that this company was moving my things and by the time I was told it was too late to do anything about it. I needed my things moved, I had a flight to NYC in a few days with my mother going out there with me. Too many schedules were already being messed up and neither company especially the Neighbors Moving & Storage cared that this was down to the wire.

If I would have been able to research South Moving Transportation, I would not have allowed them to pick up my things. A one woman show with only one truck and they picked up many more houses on their way. So when they weighed my belongings and told me my things were over my weight limit by almost 1,000 pounds, call me surprised and angry about my quote being so low and having to pay so much extra. Did I also mention I paid Neighbors Moving & Storage $300 for a direct delivery date of January 6? I had flights booked and needed everything coordinated. But alas, I was disappointed.

I was told I would be called that night after my things were picked up to give me a final total. I was never called. I had to be the one constantly calling them (Camila at South Moving). I was told my weight was way over and my bill was going over hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars on top of packing fees that their movers added on AFTER I signed my total for that day to pick up my belongings. DECEPTION again.

And here is where the story takes a turn for the absolute worse

It was January 4, I never heard where my things were in transit. I was told by Chris C. And Vans J. At Neighbors that I would be in constant contact with whomever picked up my belongings getting updates. That is a lie. I was NEVER ONCE CALLED or updated.

It was January 5, I had a flight out with my mom and we were in NYC, assuming since I paid extra my belongings would be delivered on Jan. 6. We tried to have fun and had booked a hotel for that night knowing we would not have to pay for a hotel the next night because I would have my thingsright? WRONG.

It was January 6, and I still hadnt been told when my things were supposedly arriving.By 10 AM Camila finally answered my string of emails and calls telling me the truck wouldnt arrive until that evening around 7PM. So my mom and I went to Home Depot to get cleaning supplies and got lunch. We started cleaning the apartment and I noticed it was 5:15PM and I hadnt heard anything from Neighbors Moving or Camila at South Moving who had my belongings in her unmarked truck (advice, get the license plate number on your truck when it arrives). I call her asking if my truck would be there soon. For a while she dodged my emails and phone calls, but finally told me the truck had broken down in Virginia and had to be towed to a repair shop. Now, why wasnt I informed of this earlier? If it was in Virginia, there is no way the truck would have gotten to NYC by 7PM. When I asked where in Virginia and asked for the repair shops name, she would not give it to me. THIS IS WHEN I STARTED TO PANIC.

I was extremely upset. I had no clothes, no toiletries, no bed, no towels, and was sitting in an apartment and my mom was supposed to fly out the next morning. I have never felt more vulnerable, used, abused, or devastated. No one from either company was reassuring and I thought they had hijacked my belongings. I did not have an endless budget and my mom and I had to get another hotel room and change her flight so that she could calm me down and help me prepare for the worstnot getting my things at all.

These shady companies did nothing to reimburse me for the $350 Bed Bath & Beyond purchases I had to make to get toiletries, an aero bed, sheets, towels, or the $374 flight change or the $200 hotel room fee because it was so last minute. These companies are a scam.
