I wish I head read the "Swindled! Indianapolis Indiana" report before scheduling this movers. I have a similar experience and am still not done.
I was moving from Long Island, NY to Westborough, MA and began researching moving companies. Golden Vanlines presented a quote to load, drive and unload at final destination with their own truck. The price was $900 and I was happy after researching the company. I have since found out they have the same name as a company out of Colorado and they are NOT affiliated. I knew the price was competitive but had gotten many other quotes from other companies along the same lines. I chose Golden Van Lines because they SPECIFICALLY STATED THEY COULD MOVE ME OVER THE SAME DAY!!!"Sure, we work 365 days a year, no problem"
The loaders were scheduled to arrive at 12 pm but arrived at 3:30 pm instead. This was on Wednesday, Dec 28. I had repeatedly told them that if they arrive after 2, I cannot make it the same day as I have to take delivery of my apartment before 7pm. Hence, by arriving late, they made it impossible for me to take delivery on Wed. I asked them to go back and come again the next day. One of the 2 men who arrived said that they will not send another truck the next day and I had to do it on Wed. They offered me to deliver it the first thing on Thursday. I had no choice and hence rolled with it. After the last box was loaded the main guy said the price is more than originally quoted. I asked how much more? A couple of hundred bucks wouldnt be a problem but he said the total price is now $2550.00!!! I was shocked needless to say. I have moved several times and never had such an experience. The loaders labeled every little piece as a single item that I could have thrown in mycar if I had known it would inflate the price so drastically. After a little negotiation, the man agreed for a price of $1500. I paid the man $900 in cash. Note that I had already made a deposit of $200 on the phone via a credit card (More on this later). He stated I would owe $400 at the final destination. This was, as I said, on Wednesday 12-28 and it needed to be delivered on Thursday, December 29th. The trip is 200 miles and it would not take more than 5 hrs even in peak traffic.
The company also stated the driver would call me 24hrs in advance of delivery. I have been calling them since Thursday every day. They never answer their calls. After a lot of tries, I managed to get some one on Thursday evening and they said they had not trucks and would deliver it for sure on Friday. I did not hear from anyone till Friday noon and so I called them again. This time, another female picked up and said that they would deliver it on Saturday for sure. I asked her that Sat was a holiday. "No problem sir, we work throughout the week. We move on Saturdays and Sundays too". At this point, I was already getting frustrated, but decided to put up with them one last time. Since Saturday, I have been trying to reach them. No one is picking up the phone. Today is Tuesday, January 03 AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY FURNITURE!!! I have sent a lot of emails and left them a lot of voicemails. I have no replies from them.
Now, on the deposit. I was promised a deposit of $200 on the phone when I gave them the credit card details. I noticed online that they charged $2000 instead!!! I called them on Dec 28th, and they said "Sir, the young lady who made the transaction made a mistake. We will refund it. It should show up in 3 business days. We will send you an email immediately in regards to this". Since then, I have not had a refund nor an email. I called my bank to dispute this charge.
I wanted to warn anyone looking for a moving company in the tri-state area not to use this company as what they say and what they provide are two very different things. At this point I would have appreciated someone who would at least listen to me and maybe discount the price a little but they wont even answer their phones anymore as they have caller id and know its me. As of 12pm Tuesday afternoon I have no furniture and no exact time it will ever get here.
I am under sever stress! I do not know what to do!
