My son got an HD TV for xmas. I called Direct TV to order a new HD box for his room.in order to get an HD box from Direct TV I had to agree to extend my "contract" for 24 months. If I cancel my Direct TV account anytime within that 24 months, I will be charged $20 per month for the rest of the term of the contract. Sooooo... If I cannot afford Direct TV for some reason within the next two yea... Rs, my credit card on file will be charged a lump sum amount for $20 per month for the remainder of that 2-year contract. So, in order to get an HD box, I was suckered into a 2-year contract - I had no choice in the matter. REALLY? What if someone should unexpectedly lose their job? What if someone has a major illness and cannot afford Direct TV anymore? Guess your credit card gets charged $480 (or more knowing Direct TV) anyway. OR, maybe you're just stupid for getting an HD TV in the first place. I would like to be able to cancel my Direct TV service if necessary without penalty.
