I got into Rival Talent in august through a craigslist ad. Brady Kotter called me and said would I be interested in coming in for an interview and I agreed. He told me to bring $20 to the interview to get started. So stupidly enough I did. So I got in his office trying to see what to expect out of this service. Pretty simply enough they offer you acting jobs or being in the background in movies and commercials and they get part of the pay. That sounded alright to me.in the beginning of the interview he kept saying that sorry that I couldn't meet his secretary as she is out getting coffee. He then pointed to a desk space beside the door and it had a phone there presumebly she would take office calls. It seemed to little space for a secretary to work but all I cared about was starting work and getting paid so I went with it.
After I left the office I started researching Rival Talent to see if it's actually legitimate. I went to their Citysearch page online (http://utah. Citysearch.com/profile/697629810/salt_lake_city_ut/rival_talent_agency.html) and found their office number and it was disconnected. So how was the secretary getting all the calls? That was the first red flag. The second red flag was he asked me to comeback and do some profile photos and bring $40 to register me into IMDB.com. At the time it seemed legitmate but now looking at it in retrospect It seems like he was selling me down the river. So I came in and gave him $40 and he began taking pictures of me.
He then offered me to have free acting classes and I accepted. So on the following appointed day I came to his office on time and his office his locked. So then I call him and he answers and says "Oh im sorry man we're going to have to do it another day." So then I gave him the benefit of the doubt and tried to go to the next free acting class. Came there early again and the elevator wasn't working at all. Tried calling Brady to see if he started the class. He said "Oh you didn't get the email? We reschedueled it to later that day. Im sorry. This is my bad." So then I wait till later to the new appointed time and then I get a call "Sorry we have to schedule for another day." I never went to another free acting class again.
So then afterwards to see if any of this was actually real and not a scam I wanted to see if I would get a job from this guy. He called me 2 weeks later after I signed up with him and said "Hey you have this job I signed you up for and you have to meet in sandy". So I was excited!!! And came over to the commercial set in Sandy. After the job was done I thought ok I'm actually in a legitimate actor agency. But then that's where my trouble began.
One week passed. Then the second week passed. Then the third week passed. Still I didn't get any pay at all. I started calling him and leaving messages that I didn't get paid yet. He kept promising that I will get paid but the money is backed up now. Then he promised that now that the money is settled he will give me a check in the mail. So then I wait a whole week after Brady says that I will recieve it in the mail. Then I start calling him again right after. He then started making appointments to give the money to me personally. 4 appointments later as he was no shows to all of them having excuses to all of them i said that I quit.
But it doesn't end there. He calls me up after 3 weeks of me quitting. That he found out that his secretary has been stealing from him and that he called the cops on her and she is on the run. But the real reason he called me was the first job I did for him the company is calling me back to continue to shoot for their commercial. Since they cannot delete me out of their shots because I'm right in front of the camera in their first shooting they really need me to complete their commercial. So then I agreed more for the company that needs me rather than Brady who keeps making excuses on why i'm not getting paid.
While I am doing the commercial shoot the company even mentions how my boss isn't at all professional. Without me even saying anything they go off in this conversation about why he wasn't and makes ridiculous excuses.
So after I did the job I waited to see if there would be any difference that I would actually get paid since supposedly his "secretary" stole the money. I called him once about my pay and he said he was busy and would call me back. He never did. I'm too tired to battle this with him and getting failed appointments and ultimately dumb excuses on why I am not getting paid. This man seems like he is legitimate but he really isn't. If you're searching up his business turn completely away from it. He won't pay you in the end at all.
