I had AT&T Uverse for nearly 3 years and am still an AT&T Wireless customer (though not for long). I moved and the new area did not support Uverse yet so I had to go with another company. I moved in with a family member who suffered a traumatic brain injury so the move was rushed and stressful. I inadvertently packed up my AT&T Uverse equipment and did not find it until unpacking 4 months later. I called them immediately to return the equipment. I was told that because I had gone over the 90 day limit, they would not take the equipment back and that I now had a bill of $802. Period.
They would not take it back because they cannot re-register the equipment to someone else. This is a lie. One of the largest technology giants in the world cannot re-register their equipment? Are you kidding me? Well, I finally said ok, put me through to billing. They then told me that I had been sent to a collection agency. I called the collection agency and was told that I had 90 days to pay the $800 or it would go on my credit report.
I am a sinlge mom of two kids who took a 23K pay cut after being laid off for 5 months and this technology giant would take food out of my kids mouths because they don't have the ability to re-register equipment. I cannot believe this. I am so frustrated that big companies can get away with this kind of nonsense. Anyone know of anything I can do? I am going to write my congress men and women about this. It is not acceptable. If the equipment was damaged or something, I could understand. But it is in the original boxes and in perfect condition.
Help, any suggestions.
