Back in January, I responded to an ad in the Providence Journal regarding job search services (www.jobhunting2000.com). Several days later I received a phone call from "Colorado" (LOVE THAT CALLER-ID) stating that "they" had received my information and could help me in my job search. When I called back, I found that "they" were Bernard Haldane Associates. (NOTE: Haldane schedules all of their appoinements out of their Denver office so the person who schedules your appointment is just a voice. They have NO association to the office where your meeting will be).
I scheduled the appointment to meet with Bill Weydermeyer in the Providence office. I was very impressed with what he had to say and what "they" could do for me. The initial meeting (he didn't like the word interview) went very well and we scheduled a second "meeting" with my "significant other" (SIGNAL FLARE). I left the office feeling much better about myself and the potential for a new job.
The second "meeting" went extremely well... For the first 60 minutes (HMMMM... 60 minutes). We were told that the office only "accepts" 25 new "clients" per month. Then came the fee pitch. When I scheduled the initial appointment, there was never a mention of a "fee". Bill left us alone to "discuss" this. What we discussed was how to get out of the office unnoticed. I left things "open ended" for scheduling the next meeting. Then I found usacomplaints.com. I am glad that I left things open-ended. I have drafted a polite "thank you but no thank you" letter and sent it out!
THANKS consumer complaints! I dodged a very expensive bullet!
