Do not subscribe to this newspaper. Do not even live anywhere that this newspaper is available. If you do, then they will never leave you alone.
My problems began in when I was going to be out of town, I called the newspaper, and they agreed to stop delivery, but it continued anyway.
The second problem was repeated telephone calls to a number on the federal do-not-call registry.
The third problem, which continues to this day, is unlawful door-to-door solication. Camarillo law requires all solicitors who go door to door to carry permits from the city business office with them. Additionally, they are required show the permits whenever requested and to skip all residences where there are no soliciting signs.in spite of having several no soliciting signs and living within the Camarillo city limits, I am repeatedly confronted by teenage solicitors representing the company who do not show permits when requested and use tactics that would get an older solicitor arrested, such as a male solicitor saying subscriptions were needed to keep him from joining a gang and a female solicitor's offer of a sexual nature. I have filed multiple complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and in order to get the BBB to consider the matter resolved, the company eventually agreed to put my address on a "do not solicit" worksheet and notify all the solicitors, but the harassment still did not stop.
In conclusion, because I cannot in good conscience do business with a company that I consider to be a criminal organization, I will not subscribe to the Ventura County Star under any circumstances. If I absolutely must read an article in the printed edition of the newspaper for some reason, I will do so at the public library, even if the cost of driving there exceeds the cost of the newspaper, because I would rather that my money go to the profits of a law-abiding company.
