Reliance Global Talk Rip Off - Failing to Cancel Service and Continued Monthly Charge

Reliance Communication is a leading International Telecommunication company and a major provider of International Calls to India. I have used their services for over five years. However, during the last 12 months, the quality of calls has progressively become poor and rates charged higher than other providers.

Finally On Jan 3rd, I called to cancel my service and subscribed to another provider. However on Jan 18th, I noticed my credit card was charged by Reliance Communication. I presumed this charge must be for calls made prior to Jan 3rd when I had cancelled the service. However, they continued to charge my credit card on Feb 16th. When I called to complain, I was informed that not only my service had not been cancelled, it could not be cancelled until next monthly charge was billed to my credit card. Needless to say I did not find it an acceptable explanation and reported the matter to my credit card company. The agent for my Credit Card's Fraud Prevention could not understand why Reliance Communication will continue to charge my credit card despite my having revoked the authorization and cancelled the service.

On Feb 22nd the Agent from my Credit Card Company called Reliance Communication while keeping me on the line. To his surprise, Reliance Communication Customer Service representative insisted that the authorization to charge my credit card can not be revoked and he could not cancel the service until the monthly service charge was paid. The Credit Card Company's agent informed Reliance customer service representative that the authorization was indeed revoked and request for cancellation of service had been made and asked to speak to supervisor. After a long argument and presumably consultation with his supervisor, finally, Reliance representative grudgingly promised to cancel my service after charging my account one more time.

My Credit Card Company's Agent commented that he had never experienced such blatent Rip-off and would have never believed me had he not spoken with Reliance representative directly. While the credit card company will monitor any future charges, I thought it prudent to lodge this complain on your web for everyone to see. Hopefully, either Reliance Communication will change their practice or their prospective customers will be forewarned before signing up for services & giving their credit card information.
