They hired me to do work for them and after 2 weeks of doing the work assuming I was hired, they told me "their policy" was to only ask for an RFP and they were looking at other Producers to give them estimates.
Then I was "officially hired" and we agreed on a rate for myself and the budget of the project was up to $1.5M. I worked approximately 60 days, I got paid for 5, I billed for 28 days and then they refused to pay me because the client didn't sign off on the final estimate when I was told from the minute I was hired that the client would definitely produce the project.
They are hypocritical because the President wrote in a blog that it's "unfair to ask aency people to work for free because it's insulting and undermines our talent and the years it takes to be the best we can be". When I asked to be paid for my time I was told they had no obligation to pay me because the client never signed the estimate and "this just sometimes happens".
In 20 years of producing, I have NEVER been treated like this from a PROFESSIONAL agency. I have ALWAYS been paid for my time regardless of whether the clients signs off on the project or not.
I was owed THOUSANDS of dollars and worked on and off for THEM for 5 months. I walked away with basically a weeks' worth of pay.
Is this what the recession does to businesses?
